KNOX, Pa. (EYT) – If you are a hunter in western Pennsylvania, chances are you are familiar with Jason Say. Known for hosting the show All In Outdoors and for his decades of success harvesting many Pennsylvania trophy bucks, Say turned his passion into a full-time career helping others become successful hunters themselves.
With decades of hunting experience and almost 20 years of hosting his show, Say currently maintains a successful career both hosting All In Outdoors and running his property consulting business, specializing in habitat management and hunting strategy across the Northeast.
About six years ago, Say launched his consulting business, Field Days Whitetail Property Consulting, though he was initially hesitant. It took persuasion from others to convince him of the value he offered.
“I’ve been fortunate in Pennsylvania to consistently shoot a big, mature whitetail. People have watched that, and they say, ‘Come tell me how to do that,’” Say told exploreClarion.com. “I knew I would have to charge a pretty penny for that to make sense for me. I put it off and kept putting it off, then one of my buddies was like, ‘Listen dude, people want to pay. It is going to save them time, money, and energy.'”
Say finally took the plunge six years ago and now books out every year, taking on 30–40 properties annually. His venture has taken him across the region, from Michigan to the northeast, and even to states like Virginia and North Carolina.
The most enjoyable part of the job for Say is seeing the results.
“All of the travel to those states, it’s a lot,” he emphasized. “But, personally, it’s one of the most enjoyable things, and what’s awesome is some of the emails I got today saying ‘you know, Jason, the plan is working.’”
Say advises those seeking consulting services to focus on finding a consultant who specializes in their geographical region. He notes that hunting in the Northeast—including Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, and Michigan—is fundamentally different from hunting in the Midwest (like Iowa and Illinois).
He stressed that regional differences matter, saying, “It doesn’t do you any good to have a guy from Illinois come here, who doesn’t understand the hunting pressures in Pennsylvania, and the soil conditions. I wouldn’t want to have a guy in the Midwest pay me to come out and tell him the wrong things either.”
He offered a helpful analogy for choosing the right person: “I had a guy use a great analogy the other day. He said, ‘When you’re investing with an investment banker, you’re probably going to go to the one with $20 million in the bank and not $10.’ It’s the same idea here.”
Say credits his own success in shooting “tremendous whitetails” over the last seven years to continuous learning and improvement.
For Say, a crucial part of the consulting process is understanding what success means to each client, as every hunter has different goals.
“I have a phone call with every prospective client,” he said. “I tell them I want to hear about the property, but I also want to know what your goals are. What is it that you want, how are you going to look back and say ‘That was a success?’”
Whether the goal is a trophy buck, balancing the buck and doe population, filling the freezer, or simply increasing deer visibility for grandkids, Say confirms that all goals are achievable with a proper strategy.
He emphasizes that there is no right or wrong answer to defining success. Ultimately, a good consultant saves property owners from making “costly and long-term mistakes,” such as improper cover management that can take years to fix. Say’s guidance covers everything from stand placement to recommended seed for food plots, helping property owners grow and manage their ground effectively.
