COOK FOREST, Pa. — Experienced boaters are invited to embark on an interpretive float down the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River on June 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This journey, spanning the secluded stretch from Gravel Lick to Mill Creek, promises a true wilderness boating experience.
Participants will navigate through the renowned Steel Trap, documenting signs of river otters, nesting wood ducks, and bald eagles. Rich with wildlife and lumber history, this section of the river offers exceptional fishing opportunities and a glimpse into Pennsylvania’s untouched natural beauty.
The trip begins at Cook Forest State Park, located at 100 RT 36, Cooksburg, PA 16217, where attendees will gather before traveling to the starting point.
Due to the rugged conditions, only experienced boaters may participate, and pre-registration is required by June 23.
The event is limited to 10 boats, with a registration fee of $50 per boat, payable by cash, check, or money order made out to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Previous Cook Forest kayak training participants are eligible for a 50% discount.
Spots fill quickly, so interested participants are encouraged to register early by contacting the Park Office at (814) 744-8407. This immersive excursion offers a rare chance to experience the wild wonders of the Clarion River.
