CLARION/FOREST CO., Pa. (EYT) — Tyler McCauley, 32, of New Bethlehem, outpaced the competition to win first place overall in the Third Annual Rail 66 Bike Time Trial on Saturday, June 8.
McCauley bested a field of 44 riders and posted a winning time of 26 minutes and 55.2 seconds. He averaged 27.1 mph over the 11.5 mile course that began at the Rail 66 trailhead at the Farmington Township Park in Leeper and ended at Northwest Hardwoods, just south of Marienville in Forest County.
Ryan Johnson of Brookville placed second overall in 27 minutes and 20.4 seconds and Charles Thomas, Jr. of Dulles, VA, was the third place winner overall in a time of 27 minutes and 42.4 seconds.
The top three women finishers were Mary Lissfelt, from Jamestown, NY, 33 minutes and 8.8 seconds, Marissa McFarland of Oil City in 37 minutes and 7.3 seconds and Paige Simpson from Hudson, NY, in 38 minutes and 6.4 seconds.
Local cyclists who got to the podium in the age group categories were Dan Clark of Clarion, second in men’s (45-54) and Caleb Parks also of Clarion, third in men’s (17-34).
Rail 66 Country Trail hosted the event and Janney Montgomery Scott LLC (Clarion office) sponsored the race and provided refreshments, fruit and snacks to riders at the finish line. The event was organized in conjunction with the Clarion Summer Fest and it attracted cyclists from Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York.
