  2009 Living History Weekend in Cook Forest

Please join us for a fun filled weekend of living history as we journey through various historical eras of the  United States: Pre European, French & Indian, Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Industrial Revolution. Join Renowned living historian and master story-teller, Paul Stillman from Historically Speaking!, as he takes us through these noteworthy periods in American history through first person character portrayals, and hands-on demonstrations.

Friday, May 22 from 800pm-900pm
Paul Stillman as "Ben Franklin" One of the founding fathers of our country. Science, glass music, and philosophy are only parts of Ben"s life. Please meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater.

Saturday, May 23 from 1000am-1200pm
Paul Stillman as a "Seneca Indian" A Native American visits us from the past on his trip from New York as he travels south along the historic Olean Trail. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Saturday, May 23 from 1230pm-230pm
Dale Luthringer as "1750s French Marine" We are looking for a few good raw recruits to learn how to march and fight for  King Louis. Two opposable teeth are required. Vive le Roi!!! Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Saturday, May 23 from 300pm-500pm
Paul Stillman as "Thomas Stillwell: Revolutionary War Soldier" A militiamen"s view of the war that won our country"s freedom in the 18th century. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Saturday, May 23 from 800-900pm
Paul Stillman as "Theodore Roosevelt" Our 26th President and former Governor of New York. Learn about his  fascinating life. Please bring your blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater.

Sunday, May 24 from 1000am-1200pm
Paul Stillman as a "Colonial Craftsman" Learn how things were made during the early part of the 18th century during a  quill and bamboo pen fabrication workshop. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom

Sunday, May 24 from 130pm-230pm
Paul Stillman as "Byron Scott: Civil War Soldier" Come see the Civil War through a Union regimental line soldier. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Sunday, May 24 from 300pm-500pm
Logging, Dogging, & Hewing: An 1800"s Timber Operation" Celebrate Cook Forest"s lumber heritage with Dale Luthringer by observing various tools of the trade, “in-period” costume, and "hewing to the line". Bring a partner and test your skill at the two-man crosscut saw. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Sunday, May 24 from 800pm-900pm
Paul Stillman as "Lord Baden Powell" Meet the founder of the scouting movement. Come see why "Be Prepared" and "Always Do Your Best" are still relevant mottos to live by 100 years after their creation. Please bring your blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater.
