  Cook Forest Living History Weekend May 26-28, 2017

Please join us for a fun filled weekend of living history as we journey through various historical eras: Medieval, French & Indian War, Lumber Era, Industrial Revolution, Civil War, Spanish American War, and the War on Terror.

Join living historian and master story-teller, Paul Stillman from Historically Speaking!, and historical interpreters, Dave Clark, and Dennis Knowles, as they take us through these noteworthy periods in history through first person character portrayals, and hands-on demonstrations.

Friday, May 26 from 800pm-1000pm
'Cathedral by Candlelight' Walk back in time with historical characters from the past. Come view the ancient forest as we hike beneath the giants by candlelight. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom where a 1750's French Marine will guide us into the depths of the Forest Cathedral to meet an awaiting Seneca Warrior on his trek south along the Olean Trail.

Saturday, May 27 from 1000am-1200pm
Paul Stillman as a 'Seneca Indian' A Native American visits us from the past on his trip from New York as he travels south along the historic Olean Trail. Please bring your camp chairs and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom where he will be preparing sinew for his trip.

Saturday, May 27 from 100pm-230pm
Logging, Dogging, & Hewing: An 1800's Timber Operation' Celebrate Cook Forest's lumber heritage with Dale Luthringer by observing various tools of the trade, "in-period" costume, and 'hewing to the line'. Bring a partner and test your skill at the two-man crosscut saw. Please bring your camp chairs and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Saturday, May 27 from 300pm-430pm
Paul Stillman, Dave Clark, and Dennis Knowles as 'The North Meets South' Come see the Civil War through a New York regimental line soldier and a rebels of the Army of Northern Virginia. Please bring your camp chairs and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Saturday, May 27 from 800pm-900pm
Paul Stillman as 'Theodore Roosevelt' Our 26th President and former Governor of New York. Learn about his fascinating life. Please bring your chairs & blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater.

Sunday, May 28 from 100-200pm
Dave Clark as a 'Private of the 71st New York Regiment During the Spanish American War' Private Charles Johnson Post recounts the charge up San Juan Hill. Post, an illustrator for William Randolph Hearst's newspaper, endured the hardships of a soldier in the "Splendid Little War in Cuba".

Sunday, May 28 from 230pm-400pm
Paul Stillman as a 'Colonial Craftsman' Learn how things were made during the early part of the 18th century during a quill and bamboo pen fabrication workshop. Please meet bring your camp chairs at meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Dennis Knowles as a 'Line Officer in Afghanistan'Sunday, May 28 from 430-530pm
Dennis Knowles as a 'Line Officer in Afghanistan' Learn about those who continue to give their all to defend our nation from terrorists at home and abroad. Please bring your camp chairs and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom.

Sunday, May 28 from 800pm-900pm
Paul Stillman as 'Ethyerhode of Pyggewhystle' A medieval craftsmen from 13th century England - a free man and articifer. Please bring your chairs and blankets and meet at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater.
